My husband and I have been victims of hate and racial crime for a number of months now. This has included racism, harassment, verbal abused, physical abuse and most recently a knife crime carried out by two young men on my husband. He was dragged from his van one evening when leaving our shop.
This started when a family member who resides only 30 yards from our shop, began petty complaints about me parking in his street. I began to park in other streets as I did not want to cause any problems.
It soon escalated however, into harassment. Police officers have shown very little interest in the high volume of complaints in which I have logged, despite me providing cctv evidence from my shop.
I am calling upon the public to help me change the powers that police officers have, to arrest a person on police bail. Despite the perpetrator being on current police bail, I am told that despite him continuing to Harrass us, he can not be arrested. The police claim this is because the perpetrator is on police bail and would have to be on a court bail in order for them to have the power to arrest him.
My husbands mental health and mine are at such a low that we don’t know if we can continue to run our business. It is our family’s only source of income but we are attending the shop daily in fear, in fear of what is to come next.
Please help up change the current powers so that this perpetrator is arrested and justice is served for my husband and I.
