Some Star Wars fans have decided start a petition to have Disney remove The Last Jedi from the official cannon and have Episode VIII remade. The petition is called "Have Disney strike Star Wars Episode VIII from the official canon" on change.org.
Instead of expressing their issues with the film in a normal and mature way, they have decided to try and ruin it for everyone else simply because they don't like parts of the movie. This is on the heels of many people posting deliberate spoilers online and even evidence of possible sabotage of the Rotten Tomatoes user score for The Last Jedi.
Legitimate criticism of a movie is perfectly fine, and TLJ certainly does have flaws. However, trying to ruin it for everyone else just because you did not like how the plot turned out, your preconceptions did not come to fruition, or you would rather see an Expanded Universe movie, causes far more damage to the fanbase and the franchise than any flaws in The Last Jedi. Especially when the petition does not give specifics on what exactly they want from a remade Episode VIII.
So the purpose of this petition is to ensure that they do not succeed in getting TLJ removed from canon, because if we start removing Star Wars movies and TV shows because some people don't like how they turned out, then we would not have any Star wars canon left.
