Cyclist should be licence and insured to use the roads the same as vehicle drivers
Due to the updated Highway Code cyclist and pedestrians appear to have higher priority than motorists. Since motorist are taxed, licensed and insured to use the road a great number of people feel the same should be required of cyclists.
A large amount of public money has been used to alter signs, traffic junctions and marking cycle lanes so a specific contribution should be made by cyclist for road improvements, resurfacing and safety signs. The fairest way would be through registration displaying a visible number with a legal requirement to be fully insured and a minimum age restriction for major roads.
Safe cyclists should be welcome on the roads if they also abide by the rules, eg. not riding on pavements endangering pedestrians, jumping red lights endangering motorist and contributing to the repair and upkeep.
WE SHOULD ALL ENJOY OUR ENVIRONMENT LET’S MAKE IT FAIR FOR ALL AND TAX, LICENCE AND HAVE FULLY INSURED CYCLISTS.
“The newsreader Jon Snow has attacked cyclists who “behave extremely badly” on the streets, ahead of a road safety conference in Glasgow this week.
Snow, who is President of the Cyclists’ Touring Club (CTC) is chairing the Cycling Scotland Conference(link is external) this Friday at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, discussing how national and local initiatives are helping to increase cycling.
But Snow, a keen cyclist who’s often seen riding to work in London, said he didn’t know a single cyclist who never jumped a red light.”
