The World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 every year.

This year Eid ul Fitr coincidently falls on the same day, making it a day to celebrate the successful completion of the holy month of Ramazan and also protecting the environment.

We need to set aside our differences and work towards a common goal of combating Climate Change.

All religions talk about taking care of the Earth as its life is coextensive with ours. Just a few examples from religious texts that speak for the same:

“Eat and drink from the provision of Allah, and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption.”(Qur’an, 2:60)

"The land must not be sold permanently, be cause the land is mine and you are but aliens and my tenants. Throughout the country that you hold as a possession, you must provide for the redemption of the land." (Bible, Leviticus 25:23-24)

“The humble sages, by virtue of true knowledge, see with equal vision a learned and gentle brahmin, a cow, an elephant, a dog, and a dog-eater.” (Bhagavad Gita 5.18). Equal vision here means seeing through the external forms of beings that on the surface look and act differently; to recognize the same essential Divinity in all of them.

This Eid Ul Fitr, take a step forward and fulfil your obligation towards Nature. Let Eidi be planting of a new thought; planting of a sapling with your loved ones.
