With COVID and the stress of being back to school in person, tough grading isn't exactly great for students' mental health. Yes, tough grading is fair and everyone has a teacher that grades hard, but Mr. Westmoreland (World Geography, US History) has a unique approach to grading. His scale is as follows:

A - Exceeds expectations - goes above and beyond, and impresses Mr. West

B - Above expectations - does extra work.

C - Meets expectations - does all the required work.

D - Approaching expectations - not doing all the work.

F - Failing - missing work or not putting in any effort.

Most classes give an A to students who do all the required work, and an A+ for going beyond the requirements. I can understand maybe a B, but giving a C just for doing what he asks? That's insane. Not only can this tank a GPA, but it puts a lot of unnecessary stress on kids. And this is for all his classes, including his Freshman semester-long Geography class. Yes, he can grade as he wants, but this is just not right.
