Why this petition matters

Started by L Gonzalez

John Wayne is a very well known actor. He was also a very well known racist.  In the May 1971 issue of Playboy Magazine, he was quoted, “I believe in white supremacy until the blacks are educated to a point of responsibility.” Without any sense of guilt, he went on to say, “I had a black slave in The Alamo.”  He also said, “I don’t feel guilty about the fact that five or 10 generations ago these people were slaves.” As for the historic treatment of Indigenous Americans, Wayne said, “There were great numbers of people who needed new land, and the Indians were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves.” Santa Ana itself is a very diverse city and the fact there is an airport named after a famous racist actor should not be acceptable. Once we have enough signatures we will take this to the city council and hopefully they will listen to the people and not the the people who wish to keep Orange County stuck in it’s old ways. All we ask for is a signature and having this petition shared.
