Change Florida's Law from "A harm to yourself or others?" to "In need of treatment"

Where my family is today is a far cry from this time last year.  Our suffering will prevail in a law change.  John’s law will be a change from “a harm to themselves or others” to “in need of treatment”.  The police would tell me they couldn’t Baker Act my child and bring him in for emergency treatment when my child’s behavior became unstable.  They would ask me is he a harm to himself or others..and my answer would be “No”.  So, when the courts were closed over the weekend, he became a harm to me…and did the police Baker Act him? NO…THEY TOOK HIM TO JAIL…where he spent 7 months in solitary.  After 4 requests by me to bring my son to the psychiatric hospital, the Brevard County sheriff’s department thought it was better to torture my son and me by locking my child in solitary and not provide anti-psychotic medication.  They tortured me knowing I was the mother who ultimately had my son locked behind bars…while they left my son in a psychotic state.  I’m asking for signatures to have this law changed. So, we can help those who have no insight into their illness before the police department actually believes throwing a person with a brain illness in solitary is their only solution!
