Why this petition matters

Started by Kari Burns

Glioblastoma (GBM) is a deadly and rapid growing cancer with no cure. The standard treatment of care is tumor resection, radiation and a chemo pill, TMZ. At best, this treatment gives patients on average 15 months.
GBM patients who prefer to choose a different treatment plan, such as immunotherapy should NOT have to be denied a drug that is not standard in the eyes of NCCN. All options of treatment should be based on the patient. They should be able to choose how they want to be treated and with what drugs. There is no time to be denied coverage and have to go through appeals. Not all drugs work for every patient. But when you want to extend your life, STANDARD TREATMENT OF CARE is not the only option for GBM patients. There are drugs out there that can work just as good or better. There are clinical trial drugs that are paired with FDA approved drugs that may not be used regularly for GBM, but have been extending the lives of many patients that won’t be approved due to NCCN regulations and standards. It all depends on the patient. And if there is a drug out there that a patient wants to use, it is almost inhumane for “guidelines” of NCCN (National Comprehensive Cancer Network) to stand in the way!
