Change Del Sol Academy's hat policy!
Del Sol's ban on hats is illogical. According to administration, hats are not allowed to be worn because they make it difficult to identify an individual. Clothes, backpacks, body language, and even separate camera angles are some these ways. While this is a valid point, there are countless other ways to identify a person besides their hair and face. The majority of American colleges and universities allow hats, and obviously the circumstances differ, but the fact remains that banning hats will not protect students from any of the dangers that schools believe are present when hats are worn. The clothes that a student wears are more important than in past years, as expression through fashion has become more relevant and socially impactful. The social impact of a student's clothes have become far greater than in recent years. Furthermore, removing hats from campus does not remove intent. If a student planned to bully or harass another student, removing their hat would not stop that from happening. And, in the worst case scenario, if a student brought a firearm on campus, removing their hat would not remove the intent to use that weapon. More effort needs to be put into reading the body language of students and learning how to spot a threat before it happens, instead of worrying about how to catch a perpetrator before the event has even occured.
