Why this petition matters

1. The Del Oro Homecoming Game is currently scheduled for Sept 17. We think  that is far too early in the year and want the Homecoming game to be changed so it is against Granite Bay and the dance is October 1st at the EARLIEST. (OR if Folsom or Oak Ridge will swap fields with us then later in October is even better.)

  •  It is way too close to the start of the school year! Homecoming is ALWAYS late Fall, usually October! It is not fair to students (both leadership and all those just getting adjusted to their new classes and routines) to have to be ready for homecoming week, with all its activities and traditions, when we’ve only been back to school 4 weeks (one of those being a short week because of Labor Day)
  • You can still make the same on ticket sales and a game against a true school rival is the Spirit and fun of the tradition. Choosing to put Homecoming on a game against a low gate entry school was clearly a money motivated decision and not in the interest of the students at all. If you are worried about losing money then we propose you charge an increased entrance fee on Homecoming Night against a popularly attended school like Granite Bay. Everyone will still come because it’s Homecoming AND a Rival school. You will easily make back what you theoretically might lose in slightly lighter attendance at the Menlo game. However we actually believe since the Menlo Park game is still early in the season, our students will still come because the hype of the Fall will be fresh. Fans from Menlo will not come either way, but the GB crowd will absolutely come for sure. So if you have a slightly increased entrance fee for Homecoming (which is fair considering extra entertainment etc) you will actually make more.

2. We also want the tradition of Powder Puff moved back to the Spring where it has always been.

  • It is completely unfair to the football players to ask them to focus on coaching and running powder puff during their BYE week when they should be preparing for Granite Bay.
  • Powder Puff is historically in the late Spring when sports have wrapped up and students are getting ready to celebrate the end of a hard school year.
  • If you are concerned about funds, you will NOT see the same high registration from female students in the Fall the way you do in Spring because there will be way more conflicts with Fall Sports and you will NOT see the same high attendance from spectators (who paid gate fees) because it will be the ONE weekend they have off from football games in the Fall whereas the Spring brings everyone back around excited to watch some football after a long break.
