As the town of Awendaw, SC continues to grow, we would like to ensure that it is done in a planned, mindful manner.  The beauty and tranquility of the community should be maintained.  More importantly, the fragile ecology of Cape Romain, Bulls Bay, and our waterways should be protected.

If left unchecked, Awendaw will grow too quickly and suffer the growing pains and contamination of our natural resources that some of our neighboring communities have.  Shem Creek, for example, has a constant battle with bacteria and pollution.  We want to protect the wildlife in the area from a similar fate.

By limiting the lot size of Planned Development zones, the number of houses and septic tanks will be reduced to a manageable number.  Furthermore, this will help prevent massive growth in traffic on our roadways.

Now comes the undersigned citizens of Awendaw and hereby petitions the town to immediately begin to implement the procedures of notice and for scheduling the necessary town meeting to change the current zoning and to limit any planned development area to be limited to 1-acre residential lots for a minimum lot size.
