Why this petition matters

Started by Sasha Charles

Given the current climate of society, I am sure you are all aware of the injustices the black community continues to face. More recently, the injustices have been highlighted by the brutal and unjust murders of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd at the hands of police. Injustice is not only an issue for the black community to address and dismantle but responsibility for society as a whole. As an educational institution, UMass Dartmouth has an obligation to combat racism and that can be achieved by ensuring that individuals understand social and racial justice, particularly related to how dynamics of race and intersecting identities impact us all. Please sign this petition so that the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth can implement a curriculum that makes it mandatory for students to take social justice-related courses that are specifically related to race and the intersecting identities (sexuality, class, gender, ability).
