This petition is regarding a request for funding for Ph.D. Students at the Division of Global Affairs (DGA) at Rutgers University- Newark. Recently, the School of Art and Science, which determines student funding for DGA, awarded only three TAships compared to the 15 TAships and Fellowships awarded in previous years. This decision of the School of Art and Science will affect the lives and careers of enrolled Ph.D students. Some of the affected students have not finished their coursework, others are currently preparing for the comprehensive exam and some others are in their dissertation writing phase.

DGA Ph.D students have therefore decided to send a letter to Dean Dennis Paré of the School of Art and Science and Chancellor, Nancy Cantor. In the letter, we are requesting a meeting with both the Dean and the Chancellor to discuss a reconsideration of the Dean's decision. We believe that the school's leadership does not understand how the lack of funding impacts students' mental health, our research and our academic performance.

We are therefore asking for your support in our endeavor in securing a sustainable funding framework for all our students. The more signatures we have, the better our chances of getting increased funding for the program for the 2019-2020 academic year and beyond. Thank you!
