The arts are indeed necessary for a well-rounded education - especially at an early age. Keep the Fillmore open!

As a parent of a former Stoddert student, I know how forward thinking this program is. Pooling the resources of several schools improves the art education offerings available to these students. This program should be a model for expansion not a program in jeopardy. Please restore this wonderful program.

I have attended this camp my entire life, made some of my best friends, and learned years of information. This applies to kids throughout the city who attend every week throughout the school year and every summer at the camp. Fillmore has shaped who I am, and it would be a tragedy if the next generation of kids did not have the experiences I did. PLEASE SIGN and pass it on!!!

I went to Fillmore every Wednesday as an elementary student at Key School in the 80's.
Some of my best teachers were at Fillmore, and it had a lasting impact on my life. I was exposed to Drumming, Pottery, African Dance, Theater, Keyboard, Guitar, Painting, animation, and many other creative activities. I had friends that went on to Duke Ellington, and became full time artists. They site Fillmore as the place where it all began. As a graduate of Berklee College of Music, I insist that if it weren't for the excellent arts education at Fillmore, I probably would have been on another path in life. Fillmore was where I had my first guitar and drum set lessons. When you plant a seed in the mind of a child, you never know how it will take hold and grow and change that students life forever. PLEASE keep funding this critical school that for generations has been part of our primary education. DC has such rich talent in Music and Arts, it is your responsibility to place value in a cultural cornerstone like Fillmore and affirm it's right to exist for our sons and daughters.

Fillmore gas proven its value through the quality of students who have participated in the Program since 1974. I was proud and happy to be the Director of Fillmore for 27 years. I am still in touch with many of our former students. They even remember the"rules". Each graduate can enumerate the skills and life values that they learned at Fillmore. I hope that DCPS recognizes excellence and prserves it. Remember Fillmore was named one of the 10 best arts education programs in the country by the Rockefeller Foundation. We were compared with k-12 schools both public and private.
