It's a tradition among our community. It started in 1981. Live theatre is magical, and within that, Shakespeare is his own genre. Here actors create beautiful story lines, hilarious characters and wonderful memories. Where else do interns, trainees. get their own show? In what other small town has there been such a community built off of a yearly series of shows? Shakespeare is, unfortunately, a dying playwright. People are translating his works into modern English. We need to keep the enchantment of this organization going. It does NOT deserve to be cast aside because of money matters. It's not fair for this town, for the seven, five, three year-olds who will never get to experience these actors, and that stage in the glen. UCSC, this is worth keeping around.
