Dear Supporters of Free Speech and Academic Freedom,
I am pleased to share with you the good news that the Sub-Committee on Academic Privilege and Tenure has found the accusations lodged against Darrell Y. Hamamoto to be groundless. Moreover, the Committee was critical of both the UC Davis administration and the Dept. of Asian American Studies for its treatment of the accused for the past ten years. That is, the finger of wrongdoing was proven—with the incredible assistance of key witnesses—to be pointing in the opposite direction.
I wish to thank each of you for your support in protecting the principles of free speech and academic freedom. The process, however, is not over yet: The final document issued by the Chancellor has not been received. I will inform you when the definitive and concluding response arrives. For now, please know that it was through your intrepid backing that I was able to prevail over the UCD administration for the second time in three years. I thank you once more.
