Vicki Taylor started this petition to Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Chancellor Greenstein and

Faculty and staff from the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) have been told that teaching online is only an option for individuals who are at higher risk for COVID-19. Faculty and staff with immunocompromised family members are being told to wait until their family members get ill and then request Family Medical leave!

PASSHE claims that thorough cleaning, constant mask-wearing, and social distancing, students, faculty, and staff will be kept safe. Anyone who has been on a college campus knows how unrealistic it is to expect these guidelines to be maintained in dorms, classrooms, bathrooms, dining halls, and off-campus housing.

Given that we are in the midst of a global pandemic that has killed more than 130,000 people in the U.S., disproportionately impacted underrepresented minority communities, and the high number of asymptomatic carriers among younger adults, online instruction should be the default teaching mode until daily testing of the campus community and a vaccine are available.

Tell Chancellor Greenstein to give ALL faculty and staff the option of working remotely. He praised our flexibility and the innovative way our universities met the needs of our communities in the midst of the pandemic. Now the pandemic rages on and we are being forced to choose between our jobs and our health and health of our family members.
