In an effort to slow down the spread of COVID-19, Champlain College, among hundreds of other institutions have made the executive decision to transition to online classes for a period of time. With this new change, students are losing access to fundamental resources that would normally be provided on campus, like tutoring, health services, counseling, etc... Most of these resources are already included in students’ tuition. While understanding that these measures are being taken to protect students’ health and well being, students are entitled to at least receiving partial housing and tuition reimbursement for the length of time absent from campus.

The College has also demanded for students to leave the campus effective immediately and for those who are away not to come back. A lot of students, especially at 194 St Paul, have decided to stay here for the break for a variety of different reasons, many of which rely on their work study jobs, due to not having access to a meal plan. Those who cannot leave have no means of working and getting the money they need for necessities like groceries.

We are asking that the college takes these circumstances under consideration and provide effective solutions so that all students may succeed. We ask that the administration consider giving a partial housing and tuition reimbursement to students, especially with the amount of already paid resources not being provided.
