Say No To Extended Day For Elementary

Say No To Extended Day For Elementary
Champaign Illinois Unit 4 School boards wants to add 55 min of instruction to our elementary students day. Essentially this adds an entire day to the week. Quite possibly making some kids get on a bus as early as 5:30 A.M. This would have elementary students on the bus and in school for anywhere from 8-10 hours a day. The school board has shot down every supposal the teachers union has made. They are not taking teachers expertise into account and have not offered to ask parents their thoughts. The school board is making this decision by themselves without asking or taking any input from teachers, staff, or parents. We already have plenty of busing issues, staffing issues, and shortages, which this will only create more of them. Our children already spend enough time in school. They need their personal time too. We need to stand with our teachers and have their backs. We need to show the school board we DO NOT AGREE with this extension. There are better ways the money they plan to pay the teachers in a stipend($3,000 total $1.2 Million) could be used to better their education without taking away their time! Tax payers, parents, and staff should all have a voice in this matter! Stand up and stand proud for our educators!
