Study Hall At Chamblee

Goal: To use the added twenty minutes of valuable instruction time as a study hall.

Recently, the DSCD has issued an additional twenty minutes to the end of each school day until the second semester. The current plan to utilize these minutes is to add three minutes to the end of each class. This seems redundant and many teachers and students are unhappy with this. We, as a student body, propose to use the additional twenty minutes as a study hall at the end of the day.

A study hall would impact the school greatly. With the lengthening of the school day, many students have less time to complete homework at home. A majority of students at our school participate in after-school activities and need more time at school to complete their homework especially with this new schedule change. A study hall would relieve this problem as students would be awarded with an opportunity to get started on their homework early. A study hall would also impact the academic dishonesty at our school, if students are awarded more time to complete their assignments there would be a reduced need to cheat. Study halls would also give teachers more planning time to grade papers or design an upcoming lesson plan.
