Make Railway stations - access to platforms senior citizen and handicapped friendly

Most of the Indian Railway stations have overhead pedestrian bridges allowing passengers access to platforms.

The stations are poorly designed making it almost impossible for the elderly and handicapped to move from one platform to the other or access the platform from the entrance.

No ramps or lifts to allow transit through wheelchairs.

While one can understand the high cost of installation and maintenence of lifts/escalators - a sloping ramp is a one time investment with minimum maintenance required.

Wheelchairs and a small step ladder can be provided, the step ladder to provided safe boarding and alighting - critical as at times the height and gap between platform and the train exit door makes it tricky for even young persons.
