Protest against Violation of rights of BHU students particularly girls

On 22nd September, 2017, a female student of BHU was molested on campus while returning to her hostel. The students of BHU, including girls in significant numbers, started non-violent and peaceful protest. They have been carrying their protest while yesterday late night, they were brutally assaulted by the policemen in front of VC lodge and at the BHU Gate. The worst part is that girl students were beaten up by policemen.

We, the teachers and students of Banaras Hindu University, solemnly resolve that the campus should be made a safe place for everyone including the girls. We strongly condemn the increasing violence on campus, most of all, violence against women. However, all boundaries of humanity were crossed with gross human rights violations yesterday when students, including girl students were beaten badly by policemen. We strongly condemn this act and demand action against the violators. We also demand ‘protection without preaching’ to the girls. The geography of fear, across both space and time should not be institutionalized for women, while letting the men free. We express solidarity at this critical juncture when the brute force is trying to crush. We resolve to resist this silencing act. We resolve to remain non-violent in the face of violence…
