We are the GCSE triple science class of Chailey School. As is, I'm sure, common knowledge amongst students and teachers alike, triple science is not an easy qualification and is about to become even harder with the introduction of the 9-1 GCSEs next year. There is a lot of complex material to learn and memorise and learning it takes a lot of work. One would therefore presume that a class undertaking this qualification would be allocated a capable science teacher.
In our case this is not so.
As of the start of this year we have been given a teacher seemingly with less knowledge of the subject than the class. Thinking the iris of the eye is the pupil, not being aware of the fact diabetic people have to take insulin injections, confusing long sightedness and short sightedness and consistently misspelling Laser are just a few examples. These may not seem terribly significant to most but when a teacher is teaching these errors as fact it could mean the difference between a grade.
In addition our lessons have been reduced to our teacher simply reading text off of a PowerPoint that they did not make, leading to students having to correct information for the rest of the class.
Please help us by signing this petition to get us a teacher that is capable of teaching such a complex qualification.
To any students of Chailey; no names will be made publicly available so do not worry about signing.
