Students that took Accelerated Spanish for their Sophomore and Junior year were essentially required to do honors class type work, but were not able to receive honors credit for that class. For the 2019-2020 school year however, incoming Sophomores will have the opportunity to take an Honors Spanish II class. This petition is meant to grant those who took Accelerated Spanish II/III the grade bump of 1 point as if it were an honors class. This has the potential to help many raise their GPA which can help many out. Personally, as an honors/AP student, I know firsthand what an honors workload is, and many other agree when I say that Accelerated Spanish II/III was and still is at that level of rigor. TO THE DISTRICT:The students of the esteemed Chaffey Joint Union High School District cordially appeal for the following. Grant students that took Accelerated Spanish, honors credit due to the fact that at some schools for the 2019-2020 school year, Honors Spanish II will be available. Up until recently the only "advanced" Spanish classes were deemed as accelerated and held no actual advantage, GPA wise. Though the classes were rigorous, as an honors class would be, students were unable to recieve their well deserved credits for a class that matches in rigor. This petition is cordially, yet firmly, meant to open the district's eyes to the effect that the lack of credit that this class has on student's GPA.
