Declaration of Intent to Support CHUH Teachers Strike
We, the parents and guardians of CHUH students, declare our support of the CHUH Teachers Union strike.
We demand that the Board return immediately to the negotiating table with a fair contract proposal.
We do not consider the so called “last best offer” to be a fair or just offer given the history of CHUH Teachers Union prioritizing health insurance over other types of compensation.
We will not sit by as austerity measures are imposed upon our teachers when there exist other avenues of cost savings for our district.
We, the parents and guardians of CHUH students, demand that both the salaries and size of the Administration be put on the negotiating table, and be the first to be cut when savings are necessary.
We believe that the adversarial relationship between our teachers and this Board and Superintendent is the failure of this Board and Superintendent.
We, the parents and guardians of CHUH students, believe that the working conditions and compensation of our teachers determines the learning environment of our children.
We charge this Board with retaining our high-quality teaching staff, through a fair contract and a commitment to elevating teachers voices in all areas of decision-making in our schools.
Furthermore, we the parents and guardians of CHUH students have lost confidence in this Board’s ability to work collaboratively with the teachers. We are dismayed at the contemptuous tone of every communication from the Board and Superintendent about the contract negotiations. We demand the Board cease such tactics and engage in honest and transparent communications with the Teachers Union, as well as the parents/guardians and students of the district.
We trust the teachers and commit to working with them to determine future plans that ensure the happiness and well-being of all members of the CHUH community. We believe that the balance of power in the CHUH School District has too long favored the Board and Superintendent. It is time that teachers, parents/families and students stand together to strengthen our schools for today and for the future.
This statement we present to the Board and Superintendent.
