The decision to ban the use of fireworks in unincorporated areas of Cerro Gordo County, Iowa directly affects the economy of the Greater Mason City Area. When deciding to impose such a ban, which has since been faced with much opposition not to impose, you ripped away the joy and fun from the great law-abiding citizens of Cerro Gordo County.
This petition is to reverse your decision on banning the use of fireworks in unincorporated areas of Cerro Gordo County.
By not allowing use outside city limits, it will cause disruptions for people trying sleep, veterans and others with PTSD, working-class families, and the elderly. It will also increase the risk of house fires, car explosions, etc.
By allowing fireworks outside city limits, it would greatly reduce the risk of potential fires, would allow for much safer areas to shoot off fireworks without disrupting the citizens around us who wish not to be disturbed by the loud noise.
*** The Cerro Gordo County ban does not include Mason City. ***
Mason City will have their own ordinance which they have already had one vote on and will be voting again on June 20th. The ordinance that they are wanting to pass is legalizing use in Mason City from July 2nd to July 6th and then on December 31st and January 1st.
Until the ordinance is passed use in Mason City is not allowed, however, sell and possession of fireworks are legal in the state of Iowa.
