Facebook, Please Stop The Unwarranted Block of Friend Requests

Earlier last year and without warning, Facebook implemented a completely new privacy and anti-harassment policy that is now considered to be overzealous and quite ridiculous. If a friend request is sent to someone on Facebook, and that person sends back a report that they do not "know you", Facebook considers that friend request as unwarranted spam and as "harassment" and a temporary block will be placed on the account. And if your account has had this block before, another block could result in a longer block.
However, this block causes more consequences than just being blocked from sending friend requests. You cannot send a message to anyone that is not in your friends list. As well, this block also makes it difficult to use group chat in many of my groups, simply because most of the people in the groups are not in my friends list. In my opinion, this is a free speech violation as well this is against the spirit of social networking, a concept that Facebook was created around.
Let's put it this way: if I am at a job fair looking for work, I shouldn't be limited to network with employers that I know and trust. Why is this logic implemented on Facebook?
Chairmen of the board of Facebook: most of you serve in other organizations that cater to a wide variety of customers. Netflix survived its own PR backlash just last year, and it came back very strong. In light of that experience, why risk a public relations backlash from the public based on a ridiculous policy that can be simply rethought?
Please stop this policy and issue a public apology.
