COVID-19 has been categorized by the CDC and the WHO as a "Very High" Risk Disease and the global case count has surpassed 100,000. Washington State has been deemed by the CDC as the state with the most cases in the United States. The Governor of Washington, the County Commissioners of Kittitas, and even the Mayor of Ellensburg have put their governates in a State of Emergency. Schools including the University of Washington, WSU, and EWU have taken the warning from pubic health officials and switched their classes to online instruction. And now, the CWU Observer, ahead of any CWU public affairs statement, informed the student body that a professor now is in self-quarantine due to possible exposure to the virus.
We, concerned students, families, and citizens, ask that CWU for once actually care about the safety and health of their students by canceling all person to person classes and move to online instruction for the remainder of winter quarter. We should look to the example of the theater professor who had the mental fortitude to care for his student’s safety and health by moving all their classes to online instruction.
