As a result of the recent shooting of unarmed FAMU football player Jonathan Ferrell by a Charlotte Police Officer, I am petitioning the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) to move its 2014 tournament out of Charlotte, N.C.
The CIAA is the oldest of the 4 HBCU athletic conferences in the United States and generated $47.17 million dollars in economic impact and $29.86 million in direct spending in Charlotte, N.C. during the 2013 CIAA Tournament. The CIAA tournament is the third most attended basketball tournament among all NCAA divisions.
Please sign this petition in requesting that the CIAA commission utilize their economic power and move their conference tournament from Charlotte N.C. as a result of the innocent killing of Jonathan Ferrell.
- Senior Associate Commissioner of the CIAA
