Killcare/ Hardys Bay Walkway
Killcare Marina to Stanley St. (Fire Station and childrens playground)

Dear community members and visitors,
I am seeking your ideas and support for two
proposed improvements to the Killcare/Hardys
Bay walkway before approaching Central Coast
Council

1. Safe pedestrian footpath for Araluen Drive.

There is currently no footpath on this very busy road and
the verge on both sides have numerous trip hazards
such as tree roots and potholes. With cars parked on
both sides it is necessary to either walk on the road or
weave in and out of parked vehicles to avoid traffic. This
makes it extremely dangerous to push prams, ride bikes,
supervise small children or walk dogs, let alone facilitate
wheelchair access. There have been several reports of
walkers having fallen on the many tree roots protuding
from the edge of the road and bank on which they are
forced to walk. In the past a child suffered a broken leg
when hit by a car along this stretch of road.
Construction of a pathway, possibly shared pedestrian
and bicycle, between Killcare Marina and Stanley? (?200
metres ) on Araluen Drive, would provide safe access
from Killcare Marina to the Stanley St park. The two
options are:

a) on the water side of the bay which would require
retaining of the diminishing section of road and eroding
bank, or

b) in front of existing properties which would join with the
existing footpath in front of the units/near the Marina and
run all the way to the park without having to cross Araluen
Drive.

The project will need to consider both parking and
conserving the natural environment. In addition to kerb
and guttering to manage drainage, Council will need to
consider erosion of the drain running under Araluen Drive
and the bank which has trees slowly collapsing into the
bay. Ideally the road needs to be straightened where it
bends and narrows just past the marina over the drain.
This section causes a backlog of traffic and becomes
almost impassable when it is busy.

2. Preserve Stanley Street waterfront reserve

The small stretch of waterfont reserve between Blythe
and Stanley Streets is in need of improvement to halt
erosion and enhance the green space. It is suggested to
include parking arrangements to keep cars off the grass
such as formal angled parking with gutters or bollards.
This popular picnic area near the childrens playground
would also benefit from additional picnic tables.
Hardys Bay has a population of appox 2,019 (census
2016) and thousands of tourists visitor the area every year
to enjoy it’s natural beauty and many local attractions.
Bouddi Coastal walk attracts 200,000 a year in its own
right. We have a wealth of beautiful waterways, beaches,
National Park, Indigenous history and historical sites.
This vibrant area features boutique retail shops,
restaurants, cafes, a church, fire station, marina with
boat and kayak hire, tennis court, childrens playgrounds,
wharfs, a local club, a ferry service, the community
Wagstaffe Hall, Putty Beach camping grounds, Pretty
Beach Public School, Pretty Beach Preschool and
boutique accommodation.

Our community is made up of people from diverse
backgrounds and stages of life. It is home to many brillant
musicians, artists and artisans. We all love the “village feel”
of this beautiful part of Hardys Bay but with its increased
populaton and popularity, our village has changed.
After living here for 41years I believe its time to take action
to make this area safe and scenic for us all to
enjoy. I encourage your support and ideas about how to
proceed. Please sign or text.
Yours in safety and progress, Debbie Watson
