Kunal Mehrotra started this petition to CBSE(India)

Hi everyone! This is an urgent problem we need to address. Board exams for class 10 have been made compulsory once again and it is causing great problems for our country. These exams mostly encourage rote memorisation and not real-life skills in students and affects every standard as teachers and parents say, 'Boards aaayege toh aise padhoge kya ? Tumhe toh kuch yaad nahi rehta." etc. Also, the big syllabus and great importance that everyone gives to them, board exams force schools to push all their students harder and harder and although, we have a system of streams for senior secondary classes, all subjects need to be excelled at to achieve board success. Also, the success of students in these exams is celebrated as if it were lifes toughest challenge. We must remember that boards are just one set of tests and not, by any means, a way to determine how a student will do in his/her life later.

Also, the stupid syllabus of the class 10 prescibed by the CBSE requires students to study all subjects in depth even if they plan not to have a career choice of that particular subject. Added to this, to excel, or even give a slightly above average performance in these exams, students need to literally *gulp down their books*(except Maths for some). This does not allow sufficient time (even if time wasted on social media is excluded) for studentss to pursue talents such as of art, dance and music. And the vocational studies offered are just a formality.

I campaign for removing board exams because this measure will ease pressure on schools, and as a result teachers and students, to worry about marks. I rather suggest an alternative form of examinations that provide some more freedom to students to pursue their real interests. Another good idea would be to remove the useless segments of syllabi which will actually become obsolete by the time we students reach college. These changes will improve things from the grassroots.

Concluding, I humbly request all Indians to sign this petition and let CBSE know that it needs to change itself a lot in order to adjust to the changing times.

Thank you.
