Remove import restrictions on electric cars coming into India
This petition had 37 supporters
Car makers like Tesla, Nissan, GM have to pay huge excise and import duties while bringing their cars to India. Though Indian government has committed that it is planning to replace all current cars by electric cars by 2030- years we have just one electric car in the country today. In order to speed up the process, we urge the government to remove all tax impediments that ultimately delay and increase the cost of battery operated cars.
By allowing cars imported here, technology is transferred to local workforce and eventually will bring car manufacturers setup units within India for local purposes. Also, since water is also scarce in India, setting up car production shops has too many environmental damages as well.
Considering all the above and the most important threat of global warming, there is no borders to the impact of climate change. The solutions, like eliminating fossil fuel from our cars, should be also treated as urgent and hence these border restrictions be removed for all electric mobility solutions.
