Sonia Reynolds started this petition to Celtic Energy and

The East Pit Revised Open Cast, owned and operated by Celtic Energy, has finished coaling operations and is currently undergoing refurbishment. The site is located on the Neath Port Talbot, Carmarthenshire border. It sits between Mynydd y Gwrhyd and Mynydd Du straddling the Amman and Twrch valleys.    The bulk of the site will be returned to Common grazing land with open access for walkers. There is a clear opportunity to open up some bridle-paths on the site to provide safe, off-road riding for local horse riders and those in the surrounding communities. There are currently very few bridle-paths in the local wards around the East Pit open cast site. Local roads are increasingly busy and the lack of bridle paths is putting riders at risk riding around the roads and lanes as they try to access the very limited, accessible, off-road areas.   The East Pit site has the potential to provide bridle-paths that enable safe links for the many local riders onto the relatively new permissive bridleway on Mynydd y Gwrhyd. Also to into

Black mountain and Beacons bridlepaths, tracks on the Baran Mountain and those horse accessible cycleways traversing the area.   Riders value and take a keen interest in maintaining tracks, animal wellbeing and the countryside in general. They can be  of assistance to farmers in notifying them in relation to stock issues and locating any problems or fence breaches.  Their involvement on the East Pit site would be beneficial to the overall maintenance of the area.
