Cedar Falls Community Staff, Parents, Students and Members started this petition to Cedar Falls Community School District and

The mandates issued by Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds to reopen Iowa schools and the proposal by Cedar Falls School District to return to in person learning on Aug. 24th during a national pandemic puts students', teachers', and staff's lives at risk.

Cedar Falls teachers, staff, parents, and community members petition the Cedar Falls Community School Board members and Superintendent Dr. Andy Pattee to follow the lead of Des Monies Public School District's Superintendent in 1) delaying the start of the school year until after Labor Day, 2) starting the school year 100% virtually until COVID-19 cases have significantly declined in our community, and 3) openly challenging the dangerous mandates from Governor Reynolds that put lives at risk.

Please read more about the risks that COVID-19 presents to kids and remember to think about all the adult staff members you have in each of your schools. Think about all the kids that have a sibling or parent at home that are currently high risk during this time. Think about what our kids and staff could take home to their own families. While we understand that school is important for the development of kids, and as much as we would all love to return to our jobs, we must think about the larger picture here. If we work together, we can make a loving online environment for our kids, until it is safe to start a hybrid between online and in person classes, and hopefully one day we can return to a full day of in person classes. But that day, is not Aug. 24th or even in the year 2020.
