LETTER TO THE CCSD93 SCHOOL BOARD:

Hello all, I wrote the note below some 6 months ago, and here we are, almost a year after the pandemic started, and we have only now let our 8th graders and other grade school kids return to school for a 2 day-a-week, half day, hybrid schedule.  That is unacceptable.

President Biden, the CDC, Dr. Fauci and scores of other experts all say that schools are not a significant source of transmission and all of them are advocating for our children to be in school.  Yet, the CCSD93 Board of Education, the administrative staff and all the principals and teachers have yet to find a way to allow children in school for a meaningful full day in our community.  That is unacceptable.

There are districts across this state that have found ways for kids to be in school each-and-every day, yet, the CCSD93 Board of Education, the administrative staff and all the principals and teachers have yet to find a way to allow children in school for a meaningful full day in our community.  That is unacceptable.

I ask you please find a way to get our children back in school.  All the science, all the data and all our most respected doctors and scientists say kids need to be in school.  I don't care how you do it, whether it's adding big heated tents for lunchrooms and instruction or utilizing every square inch of school space, including classrooms, gyms, teacher spaces, whatever, but I had thought this board, administration and staff was filled with intelligent people that can figure out solutions for complicated problems, but again, almost a year later, we are still struggling with planning and execution.  CCSD93 is the largest consumer of our property taxes, I don't believe these additional costs should be an issue.

I ask you to please get our children back in school, at a minimum of two full days a week, but you could really do more than that with some creative and critical thinking.  Our children our suffering.  Study after study shows remote learning is harming our kids.  We cannot keep our children in their bedrooms for a year, doing something that masquerades as a school day and expect it not to have detrimental effects on our children.  Kids need to be in school, science shows it's safe for both students and teachers.

I will be sharing this letter and asking other CCSD93 parents to write you as well and sign a petition for more in-person instruction.  I respectfully ask you to find solutions, please don't blame others like the county health department, just figure it out and get our children back in school as soon as possible.

Thanks for your time.
