July 14, 2020
Whereas, Clark County is in the midst of the COVID 19 epidemic, infection rates are close to 800 plus new cases a day; nevertheless, the CCSD reopening plan for the Fall 2020 remains unclear, did not include community input and may put the health of educators, staff, and families at risk;
Whereas, in the July 7, 2020 proclamation to convene a Special Session of the Nevada Legislature, Governor Steve Sisolak included CCSD’s request for amendments that would allow central administration to sweep school carryover balances;
Whereas, when Speaker Jason Frierson introduced legislation to allow CCSD to sweep carryover school balances, AB 2, Superintendent Jesus Jara denied in public comment that this was CCSD legislation, yet he was contradicted publicly by Speaker Frierson;
Whereas, in spite of legislators’ statements, Superintendent Jara persisted in maintaining that AB 2 was not CCSD’s bill, and reporting by the Review Journal today has now shown that Superintendent Jara has not been truthful about his request to Superintendent Jhone Ebert and Speaker Frierson regarding AB 2;
Whereas, Governor Sisolak and Superintendent Ebert have voiced concerns over Superintendent Jara’s integrity and ability to lead Nevada’s largest school district; stating today in a press release, that “I’m incredibly disappointed that once again Superintendent Jara has tried to mislead the communities he represents and blame others in order to avoid the repercussions of his poor decision .. leadership requires honesty …Clark County … deserves better”;
Whereas, most principals, teachers and staff have lost faith in the integrity of Superintendent Jara, and his ability to lead the school district and are unsure what to believe given many contradictions and lack of honesty;
NOW THEREFORE, the undersigned request that the Clark County School District Board of School Trustees immediately review the integrity, honesty, and leadership performance of the one employee it supervises, Superintendent Jesus Jara, and take measures so that 1) the Governor of Nevada, Legislature and community can regain confidence in the leadership of CCSD, 2) employees, students and families can feel safe in the decisions undertaken by the School Board in reopening of schools, and 3) principals and educators can be reassured that they have a leader that will have the best interest of children and CCSD employees at heart, 4) the interest of our children always come first in CCSD.
