On August 25, 2021 Assistant Varsity coach of Los Osos High School, David Riden, was arrested and booked for placing a hidden camera in the girls waterpolo and aquatics bathroom. Riden admitted to having engaged in this criminal act for at least two years.

David Riden has been an employee of Los Osos High School since 2015, and an employee of the district for even longer.

After hearing about this situation many of us felt outrage and heartbreak. We send our children to school with an expectation that they will be in a safe environment. We were failed by David Riden, Los Osos and the Chaffey Joint School District.

As a result, we DEMAND accountability and change from the CJUHSD and Los Osos High School that will prevent a situation like this from ever occurring again.

Even if you are a parent of a child who is not in high school quite yet, we need your support and signature!

List of Demands for Change:

1. Accountability and transparency. A school is an institution where transparency and accountability go hand-in-hand. If a school is transparent, teachers, administrators and staff can be held accountable for their actions

2. Up to date training from local Police or Sheriffs department to the staff regarding tactics on how to look for devices such as spyware. Training also should include tactics used to groom, manipulate and take advantage of minors for the purpose of human trafficking

3. Excessive in depth background checks for ALL employees and volunteers who will be on campus. These background checks should be extensive and not minimal. These background checks should include: Criminal history check, prior employment, drug screening, education verification, social media and internet check, driving record, social security number trace. The criminal history check should include but not limited to: national criminal database, county criminal courts, federal and state criminal records, sex offender registries, domestic and global terrorist watch lists

4. Security sweeps throughout the entire campus multiple times a day. They should have a check list they carry to check off every square footage of that campus

5.Update the bathrooms. There should not be cracks or crevices in the wall where spyware can be hidden. The doors to the stalls should cover from left to right with not slot available to view. The restrooms should be maintained and surveillance’s by security

Let’s remind CJUHSD and Los Osos that parents call the shots and parents fund their salaries and now parents are DEMANDING accountability and change!
