Danyelle Andrews started this petition to CCHS student body and the people of Fallon

The hurt and disappointment I feel for my graduating class is immense. Tomorrow we walk the stage and become new people who will soon enter the real world and achieve great things. Our final request was that we were allowed to decorate our caps to show our individual pride as we walk across that stage. Our request was denied by our principal, Mr. Winters, who said our proud displays would take away from our position as a “unified student body”. His condescending statements that he didn’t “have to throw a graduation” and “the ceremony is a privilege, not a right” brought tears to my eyes. Unification is a beautiful thing, it’s what ties our class together. But our differences as individuals IS what unifies us. We are different shaped pieces of the same puzzle. And we should be able to let our colors show as we present ourselves as high schoolers for the very last time. Our right to choose has been stripped from us for the sake of sameness. We are presented as drones pushed out of a factory under these restrictions. My plan is to begin a petition. Send it to the school board with the voices of my senior class in hopes that this rule can change for future generations. So they don’t have to experience the pain we felt as our freedom to choose was taken from us. I will post the petition here, so that the voices of those who agree may also be heard
