Anna Nguyen started this petition to CCHS Administration

Recently, the CCHS administration has released a new schedule for students to follow, starting January 4th (after winter break). This was first done through the form of an Instagram post. Many students voiced their concerns as to why this would do more harm than good in the comment section. However, the school turned off the comments for their post, basically silencing the student's opinions.

The new schedule retained what classes students are going to each day but extended the length of each class period from 45 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes. This will mean that students and teachers will have to start earlier and end later, but there is no need for that much class time. As high school students, there isn't much interacting that needs to be done, teachers mostly talk most of the the class period while the students sit with their cameras and mics off.

Students are all already struggling with keeping up with school as it is, having to balance between their personal lives and trying to get schoolwork done. The majority of students have other responsibilities like taking care of younger siblings and pets, working jobs to help their families financially, and helping out around the house. Students cannot give up these responsibilities to solely focus on school and the new schedule forces them to focus even more on school because it takes up more time out of the students' day. Trying to balance everything, while in a global pandemic, will deteriorate students' mental health even more.

In addition to responsibilities, not every student have a stable environment to get things done and attend class in a timely manner. There are a lot of students who live in unstable households or have to move in between households, making it harder for them to attend class as it is now, which means extending class time will cause them even more harm academically. Between responsibilities and home environment, extending class time will cause students to be even more overwhelmed and will harm students more than it will help them.
