Why this petition matters

Started by Allan Ralph Basa

Caregivers play a very important part in Canadian Society.  For decades its robust economic growth had been propelled by a labor force who are assured and secured that there are caregivers that assumes the humble yet important duty of caring for their children and old folks.

For so many years we Caregivers have continued to dwell on a system that undermines our chance and deprived us of a fair and reasonable pathway towards becoming a Permanent Resident.

Unreasonably high requirements imposed to us have virtually made our Canadian dream a distant sky and almost hopeless.

We appeal to you Honorable Minister Sean Fraser to please consider us Caregivers and include us in the framework of your immigration plan as a group of workers who also desire to be integrated as productive element of Canadian society. A huge number of us have spent our lives working here yet because of the volatility of policies and increasing standard of requirement continue to face uncertainty.  This is because the new high requirements make us unqualified.

Last year, a program called TR to PR was launched. The said pathway would have been the saving grace for us, yet it was so short lived as its CAP was too little to accommodate us.  We have sent appeal to your office but to no avail until last May of this year the House of Commons enacted what was known as Motion 44. Thousands of us were expecting this to be our chance, as it values our contribution to the economy and at the same recognizes our Canadian work experience to be sufficient to afford us a pathway for PR.

If our occupation is of integral importance in society, we ask that the immigration requirements be tempered and made fair in the spirit of social justice in favor us the disadvantaged.

For years we have endured the suffering of abuse in the hands of our employers who knows that with a temporary workers status we exist at their mercy. We have to endure for the sake of our dream that one day we will become Permanent Resident and be reunited with our Family.

Finally, we unite ourselves and with the support of the community who share our sentiments to appeal that you revive and include a pathway of similar standard with that of Temporary Resident to Permanent Resident (TR to PR) in the formulation of Canada's Immigration Plan. We also ask that you give us Caregivers a permanent pathway that provides fair and reasonable requirements for PR by eliminating the high Language and Educational requirements or alternatively lowering it in a level that is just and realistically achievable for an average aspirant. We are trapped in a situation of helplessness and will do our best to save our dream with your support.
