We are all concerned about China's recent record of human rights violations and actions.

A Canadian Commons subcommittee report found China persecutes its Uyghur Muslim minority through mass detention in concentration camps, forced labour, state surveillance and population control measures — policies that are designed to "eradicate Uyghur culture and religion".

This issue is compounded by the recent treatment of the two Michaels, and Chinese tennis star and Olympian Peng Shuai after accusing a leading Chinese official of sexual assault in an online post.

It is important for Canada to send a strong signal to China that we are extremely concerned.

This petition requests broadcasters to refuse to broadcast the Opening and Closing ceremonies (except athlete parades) and refuse to air any cultural and other content about China during the games. While the diplomatic boycott is symbolic, this will be a more impactful action and will help limit Chinese propaganda from being disseminated during the games.

Let's keep the Olympic broadcasts solely focused on the athletes and the competitions.
