Tell the O.C.W.D. to hold off on the Poseidon contract
As an Orange County resident, I am concerned about the proposed desalination plant for Huntington Beach. I am asking our directors at the Orange County Water District to postpone all contractual negotiations with Poseidon Water until we have the opportunity to observe and study the Carlsbad, CA plant in operation for two years, before constructing another one.
There is a lot of contradictory information in the media regarding the proposed desalination plant. Environmental and economic studies suggest that this would be the most expensive and most environmentally detrimental option for providing water to Orange County residents. Many people feel that it would be best to wait until we can see the effects on our coastline and the actual productivity of the Poseidon desalination plant in Carlsbad before we make a decision on one for Orange County.
It would be too hasty for the Orange County Water Department to enter into a 50 year contract with Poseidon when we have not had the opportunity to gauge the effectiveness of their existing desalination plant.
