On May 25 2020, the Alberta Bishops rolled out their guidelines for the faithful to return to Mass and the Sacraments, perhaps the most controversial part of the guidelines was the refusal to allow the faithful to receive Holy Communion on the Tongue.

On March 25 2004, Redemptionis Sacramentum was issued by the Congregation for Divine Worship & the Discipline of the Sacraments.  This document states that "each of the faithful always has the right to receive Holy Communion on the Tongue" (n92), nor is it licit to deny Holy Communion to any of Christ's faithful who are not impeded by Law from receiving the Holy Eucharist (cf.n.91)

The Bishops countered this universal right by quoting Canon 223 "which states that ecclesiastical authority is to regulate rights in view of the Common Good.

Catholics of all types can agree that rights are of the utmost importance and any restricting of them should be a last resort and should have legitimate support, in this case scientific.  To date the Bishops have not made known whom they collaborated with when making this decision.  The removal of this universal right that the faithful have must be backed by indisputable science.

The Catholic Medical Association has stated in writing that receiving Holy Communion on the tongue presents no greater risk than receiving on the hand.  Numerous secular Doctors & Virologist have also stated the same thing.  Other Diocese's around the world including the Catholic Diocese of Vancouver are allowing the faithful to receive Communion on the Tongue.

The science does not support the radical and extreme move that Alberta Bishops have made.  We appreciate the Bishops concern for our bodily health but we the faithful can take care of out own bodies, we need the Bishops to be this diligent regarding the health of our souls.

Please bring back Communion on the Tongue!!!!!!  We are Starving!!!!!!
