We want the locked gate at the Scott Avenue rail crossing removed and replaced with state-of-the-art gates that allow for safe, at-grade access to Riverfront Park for the residents of and visitors to the historic Village of Castleton-on-Hudson. We believe Amtrak & NYSDOT should balance their goal to transport travelers safely and efficiently WITH our goals of safe access and quality of life. We believe all are possible. In addition to safe at-grade access, we respectfully request that: train speeds be reduced when traveling through the Village of Castleton-on- Hudson; that bells or other audible warnings be installed at the gates to create quiet zones; that the advance warning system (currently only 15 seconds) be extended and synchronized with the crossing at the Castleton Boat Club; and that signage be installed to alert people to passing trains.
