Recently, Richmond, VA was stripped of its chance to have the ONLY BLACK OWNED CASINO AND RESORT in the United States of America. Urban One (TV ONE), a media company founded by Ms. Cathy Hughes presented a golden opportunity for city residents.

The idea behind this entertainment center would not only bring tourism to the area but create an ample amount of job opportunities for people in a once overlooked community. 

A job desert, the south side of Richmond doesn’t have many employment opportunities due to closed facilities and companies choosing to build in the neighboring counties. 

Unfortunately, the vote was shot down by 51.4 percent of voters, many of which DON’T live in the neighborhood where operations would commence. This project had the backing of many political figures in Virginia like, Governor Ralph Northam, Mayor Levar Stoney and others who saw the possibilities to come from this.

Richmond was the ONLY place in Virginia not to have the referendum passed, creating a HUGE ECONOMIC LOSS for the city. The vote to NOT have the building of this complex needs to be revisited and we need to let Ms. Cathy Hughes and Alfred Liggins know that WE ARE ONE!
