What is the International Violence Against Women Act?

I-VAWA calls for a comprehensive U.S. response to the relentless violence against women and girls around the world. I-VAWA will enhance the training of foreign military and police officers to prevent gender-based violence, require U.S. contractors to work towards preventing gender-based violence in the workplace and prevent forced marriages. Passage of this crucial piece of legislation would be a step towards gender equality worldwide and would enforce the U.S. government’s commitment towards women’s rights.

Why is this important to us?

Though we live in America, a country that guarantees more freedom than most others, we feel the effects of gender-based-violence. We know that if we in America are affected by it, millions of women and girls around the world are affected much more severely. We believe that we must use our privilege to help women who have no voice. America must set an example for other countries.

Why should you sign?

You have the opportunity to help millions of women who cannot help themselves. If you were in their position, you would hope that, somewhere, free women were working to free you.

We truly hope that you will consider signing I-VAWA. With your help, we will create a better future.
