San Francisco State University has continually been chosen by students from around the world to attend due to the amazing diversity, facilities, and staff. Students know that when they choose SF State, that they are getting the quality education they deserve. Within the past 10 years it has been increasingly important for students to gain hands-on experience within their fields, and engineering is one of those fields. Rather it be Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, and Computer, all of them need that hands-on experience that is vital to today's real world work environment. As mentioned in SF States 2015 Strategic Plan and the Future State 2035, we need a "campus that provides the high-quality teaching, research, laboratory, and collaborative space that 21st century students, faculty, and staff need". While, the College of Science and Engineering will be getting a new building in the foreseeable future, we also must turn our attention to the 3-5 years worth of students who will not be able to receive such high-end facilities, this is why we are proposing to reopen the fabrication labs/maker space located in Thornton Hall. By signing this petition you are agreeing with fellow SF State students that we should reopen this space for use and that by not doing so, will harm the educational development that SF State strives to teach their students.
