Online School for CSD
Carlynton School District was virtual for most of the 2020-2021 school year, during which there was anywhere from 50 to over 1,000 new COVID-19 cases per day in Allegheny County. Currently, COVID-19 cases in the county are reaching new highs of over 3,000 to almost 4,000 per day, and yet we are still attending in-person school daily. Social interaction is becoming more and more of a health risk during this spike, with even those who are fully vaccinated contracting and spreading the disease. An important step in slowing the spread and flattening the current spike of coronavirus is to switch to remote learning. School is simply not a safe environment right now: students are in close contact, with many failing to wear their mask properly or even completely disregarding it, especially as it is not required during gym class. With a shortage of COVID tests and a long wait period for accurate results, circumstances lead students to attend school even if they've been in contact with someone who has tested positive, because they themselves have not taken a test or gotten test results. Remaining in-person will only lead COVID-19 to spread like wildfire; we must do what we can to protect our student body and return temporarily to online learning.
