1.The presence of a Charter school will draw hundreds of students from neighboring cities into our district, financially draining an already over-burdened system. (The estimated cost is over $450,000 per year, and many of the students will not be Carlsbad residents.)
2. The school site favored to be taken over is a California Distinguished school with an API score of 902. All of the students will be displaced to various schools throughout the district, negatively impacting their academic performance. In addition, these students will lose their neighborhood school and their sense of community. Not one family from the school site targeted is verified as intending to enroll.
3. OPA misrepresented themselves when approaching Carlsbad families in two ways: What OPA claimed was an 'interest list' they are submitting as an 'intent to enroll list', and some families were told the school would be funded by the Andre Agassi Foundation, which is not the case.
4. Enrollment is lottery based, so Carlsbad students are not guaranteed space - even if desired.
