Currently on Carlow University’s Oakland campus there are immensely old wall heating units that operate by using hot water passing through pipes to heat each room.  Sounds effective, however because the building is so outdated, once the heat is flipped on for the building it is on for everyone.  That is great for the lower floors, but for all of the floors above that where hot air rises the rooms are stuck at a constantly high temperature.  Students are forced to leave their (also outdated) window AC units on virtually 24/7 in order to keep the rooms comfortable.  

Our solution would be to replace both of these units with one device in each room that handles both heating and cooling.  Much like the units found in hotel rooms.  This will provide each student with the ability to choose their own dorm’s temperature and will save the school hundreds of dollars in electric.
